The Rapid-i device is a closed device supporting an aseptic workflow, and minimising risks of contamination during vitrifying, storage and transport. As the device is separated from liquid nitrogen during vitrification, there is no need to sterilise liquid nitrogen, or to clean accessories between cases.
Loading the Rapid-i is as simple as it is smart. By holding embryos with surface tension in a defined and minute volume, vitrification in super-cooled air occurs instantly without contact with liquid nitrogen. During warming, oocytes and embryos come off easily into the warming solution.
The SmartBox keeps you well organised and safe. It increases working comfort and reduces the risk of unintentional warming. The top slots and magnetic holders keep Rapid-i straws upright and in order during vitrification, sealing and opening. The box has
a purpose designed lid where you place the straw and there are separate areas organised for working and holding.

Rapid-i™ provides successful vitrification and safe storage
Results from studies presented at international meetings during 2011-2012 conclude that the closed system Rapid-i provides successful vitrification and safe storage for embryos at all developmental stages.
Rapid-i is an effective system for human embryo vitrification at both the blastocyst and cleavage stage
In this study, Desai et al, conclude that “Rapid-i offers an excellent alternative to existing open vitrification devices for both day 3 embryos and for blastocysts” at the same time as it prevents direct contacts between embryos and liquid nitrogen.
Comparison between two closed vitrification systems. Significantly higher survival and pregnancy rates with Rapid-i™ compared to CryoTop® SC
In this prospective study, significantly higher survival rate and pregnancy rate was obtained after vitrification and warming using Rapid-i Vitrification system compared to CryoTop SC, both closed vitrification systems.
The closed vitrification system Rapid-i gives equally good results compared to an open system
A study by Hashimoto S et al, show that the closed vitrification system Rapid-i, which enables aseptic vitrification, can be used to obtain good vitrification results without the risk of impairing the developmental capacity of human embryos.
