Clinical evaluation and user experience of Vitrolife Labware dishes
Five dishes specifically developed and toxicity tested for IVF were evaluated by two clinics regarding clinical performance. The results at both clinics show that Vitrolife Labware are safe and support treatment success when used for clinical IVF. In addition, twenty clinics gave the dishes a higher score of usability than their traditional dishes showing that the new dish design is at least as user friendly as other dish types commonly used for IVF.
Comparison of cover oils - OVOIL gives both more good and top quality embryos
In a study by Sifer et el, microdroplet embryo cultures covered with OVOIL from Vitrolife gave a significantly increased mean number of good and top quality embryos at day 3, compared to other commercial available oils. This difference may be explained by the origin of raw materials and the difference in quality tests performed by each company.
Embryo culture in G-Series results in significantly higher cell numbers and implantation rates compared to culture in HTF
A study by Kleijkers show that besides cell numbers and implantations rates, gene expression and certain pathways in preimplantation embryos are also affected by culture medium.
EmbryoGlue improves pregnancy and implantation rates. Results from a meta-analysis on almost 10,000 embryo transfers
A meta-analysis of Japanese studies, including almost 10,000 cycles shows that EmbryoGlue improves implantation resulting in increased pregnancy rates confirming findings from the Cochrane reports.
G-Series culture media improve blastocyst development
Data from two studies presented at Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Clinical Embryologist show that good quality embryo rate and blastocyst development can be improved when using G-Series culture media (G-IVF, G-1 and G-2) from Vitrolife compared to a HTF-based non-hyaluronan containing media.
G-Series culture media shown to increase blastocyst development compared to control
In a study by Matsuoka et al, embryo culture was done either Vitrolife’s G-Series™ culture media or a mix of sequential culture media (control). The results show that good-quality blastocyst development was more frequent after culture in G-Series media containing hyaluronan.
G-TL supports blastocyst development in large volume
In a study presented at the ACE meeting in the UK, Shaw and co-workers compared single step time-lapse medium (Vitrolife, G-TL) with sequential series media (Sage, Quinn’s advantage) in large volume culture as well as micro drop culture. They found significantly higher day 5 blastocyst development rate in the G-TL group in both large and small volume culture.
New formulations of slowfreezing solutions for cleavage stage embryos result in outcomes similar to after vitrification
A study by Fang et al, found that FreezeKit Cleave and ThawKit Cleave significantly improved survival rates, clinical pregnancy rates and implantation rates. In fact, a survival rate of above 90% using the new formulations of solutions is very similar to that obtained after vitrification.
Optimised clinical outcomes with blastocyst culture and cryopreservation using Vitrolife G-Series culture media
A study by Zhu et al demonstrate that extended culture before cryopreservation allows for selection of viable embryos with a high chance of implantation after warming. The high blastocyst formation rate (73.8%) using Vitrolife culture media, together with an efficient cryopreservation program resulting in survival rates of >96% should eliminate any earlier concerns about blastocyst culture and cryopreservation.
Rapid-i is an effective system for human embryo vitrification at both the blastocyst and cleavage stage
In this study, Desai et al, conclude that “Rapid-i offers an excellent alternative to existing open vitrification devices for both day 3 embryos and for blastocysts” at the same time as it prevents direct contacts between embryos and liquid nitrogen.
STAR trial: VeriSeq™ PGS
The STAR trial: A randomised controlled trial (RCT) comparing pregnancy rates following VeriSeq™ PGS versus standard morphology for elective single embryo transfer (eSET)
Sperm preparation with SpermGrad show positive effect on average telomere length, sperm motility and DNA fragmentation
Yang Q, et al, found significant correlations between sperm telomere length and the quality of early embryonic development. Density gradient centrifugation using SpermGrad (Vitrolife) enrich for sperm with high mobility and low DNA fragmentation and is the preferred technique for selection of sperm with longer telomeres.
SpermFreeze Solution™ studies show equal performance compared to egg yolk containing medium
A study by Tekcan M, et al, shows that SpermFreeze Solution™ without egg yolk performs just as well as a yolk containing medium and is free from undefined substances.

Clinical evaluation and user experiences with Vitrolife Labware dishes
The specially designed square dishes were clinically evaluated in two ways; for embryo development and clinical pregnancy and for usability and user friendliness. The results show that Vitrolife Labware dishes are safe and support treatment success when used for clinical IVF. In addition the dishes scored higher on usability compared to other dishes commonly used for IVF.

Vitrolife MEA can detect sub-optimal conditions
It has been reported that not all disposables on the market used for IVF fulfil the quality standard needed for safe procedures. Approximately 25% of all contact materials failed pre-screening with an accurate and sensitive Mouse Embryo Assay (MEA) and were considered sub-optimal for IVF 4 . Vitrolife has developed the most sensitive MEA protocols. These assays are capable of detecting toxic and sub-optimal raw materials, media, and contact materials. The MEA from Vitrolife is sensitive enough to identify subtle problems that will also lead to impaired human embryo development.

Why you should only use IVF certified plastics
There are at least 30 plastic items involved in every IVF procedure. If each of them reduce the embryo viability by 2%, the final viability at re-implantation is reduced by 44%. Download this white paper to learn about what to think about when using plastics in your IVF lab.

Maintaining the correct temperature is a critical environmental factor for gametes and embryos and needs to be carefully monitored.

OVOIL HEAVY
- Purified to perfection OVOIL HEAVY is a high viscosity oil offering potential for improved handling and embryo viability.

OVOIL
- Culture oil OVOIL is a 100% paraffin oil for covering of medium during in vitro fertilisation and micromanipulation procedures.

The importance of peroxide-free oil for embryo culture
Download a scientific summary from Japanese researcher Otsuki to learn more about why high peroxide levels in oil can harm the culture system and the results from peroxide values in oil from different manufacturers.

OVOIL HEAVY is not just any other oil.
OVOIL HEAVY is the world’s first synthetically derived paraffin oil – developed, manufactured, tested and certified specifically for clinical IVF. With consistently high lot-to-lot quality and increased viscosity, OVOIL HEAVY provides exceptional safety for your embryo culture while improving handling qualities in the lab.

Heavy oil can be more supportive to safe handling in IVF procedures
In a study by Vitrolife, presented at the 13th Biennial Alpha conference in Seville, 2022 the result was that "Heavy oil can be more supportive to safe handling in IVF procedures" . In the study, more than 72% of embryologists stated that they would recommend the heavy oil to a colleague.

Let OVOIL HEAVY protect your embryo culture

How does is work?
EmbryoGlue contains a high concentration of implantation promoting hyaluronan together with all nutrients and energy sources needed for an optimal embryo development. Watch this movie where it is explained how EmbryoGlue works and how it supports implantation of the embryo.

The most documented implantation promoting medium
Since the introduction of EmbryoGlue in 2003, several studies have been published regarding its effect. In this comprehensive booklet, Dr Ann-Helene Jakobsson has summarised a significant number of studies, looking at the benefit of EmbryoGlue when used for different patient groups.

Webinar: 'Optimising transfer outcome with the use of EmbryoGlue'
In this webinar, Prof. David K Gardner guides you through the role of hyaluronan in biology and the benefits of using EmbryoGlue in preimplantation embryo culture and transfer. Watch this webinar to learn more about how you can create optimal culture conditions by understanding the importance of extensive quality testing and using an unbroken chain of quality products. This live webinar was held in June 2019.

The benefit of extended exposure to EmbryoGlue when transferring cryopreserved blastocysts
New data supporting treatment benefits with EmbryoGlue is being presented at ASRM. The study is looking at the benefit of extended exposure to EmbryoGlue when transferring cryopreserved blastocysts. Listen to Dr. Oscar Perez, lab director of Dallas Fertility Center, explaining the research and result.

New study evaluating the benefit of EmbryoGlue in PCOS patients
A study by Sayali Kandari, MS PhD, Cellsure Biotech And Research Centre, Mumbai, India, has evaluated the benefit of EmbryoGlue in PCOS patients. The use of EmbryoGlue for time-lapse selected sET in PCOS shows significant increase in implantation and live birth rates with lower miscarriage rates compared with conventional embryo transfer medium.

Implantation promoting medium with documented success
EmbryoGlue is exclusively developed to mimic the conditions in the female uterus in order to help embryos implant after transfer. In this white paper it is further described what makes EmbryoGlue increase take-home baby rates in IVF

Gx-IVF with triple antioxidant protection
Reactive oxygen species are ubiquitous throughout any given IVF cycle. And they pose a significant threat to your embryo culture. To keep your embryos out of harm’s way, we have developed a unique triple antioxidant protection for improved embryo viability. The three antioxidants have been added to Gx-IVF to form a protective barrier against oxidative stress. Gx-IVF is only for sale in US, Japan and India.

Gx-MOPS PLUS with triple antioxidant protection
Reactive oxygen species are ubiquitous throughout any given IVF cycle. And they pose a significant threat to your embryo culture. To keep your embryos out of harm’s way, we have developed a unique triple antioxidant protection for improved embryo viability. The three antioxidants have been added to our gamete-handling media, Gx-MOPS PLUS, to form a protective barrier against oxidative stress. Gx-MOPS PLUS is only for sale in US, Japan and India.

Gx-TL with triple antioxidant protection
Reactive oxygen species are ubiquitous throughout any given IVF cycle. And they pose a significant threat to your embryo culture. To keep your embryos out of harm’s way, we have developed a unique triple antioxidant protection for improved embryo viability. The three antioxidants have been added to our culture media, Gx-TL, to form a protective barrier against oxidative stress. Gx-TL is only for sale in US, Japan and India.

Why you should use specific embryo culture media for specific applications
Watch this movie where Dr. Silversand describes the development of G-TL as well as present clinical results from a multicentre prospective randomised trial.

Time-lapse technology triggers new requirements on embryo culture media
The introduction of time-lapse technology has reduced the need of handling the embryo outside the incubator. Time-lapse technology has given a unique possibility to balance metabolic stress against less handling stress during embryo culture. Learn more in this blog post.

Study confirms high performance of G-TL
Watch Dr. Hardarson present results from an international, prospective, controlled and randomised multicentre study evaluating G-TL in a clinical environment using time-lapse technology. This lecture was a part of the Vitrolife Scientific Symposium at ESHRE 2014.

A randomized controlled study comparing pain experience between a newly designed needle with a thin tip and a standard needle for oocyte aspiration
To prove the benefits of the unique design of Sense, a prospective, randomised, multicenter study was carried out 1 . Oocyte retrieval using Sense resulted in significantly less vaginal bleeding compared to a conventional needle and a significantly reduced overall pain experience – 19% lower compared to a conventional needle. Most importantly, there were no differences in the number of oocytes with intact zona pellucida after aspiration, regardless of needle size. 1. Wikland M et al. Hum Reprod. 2010;25 (Suppl. 1), O-226

The effect of needle diameter on pain during oocyte retrieval
A randomized controlled trial, with the objective study pain in women undergoing oocyte retrieval with a reduced needle (20/17 gauge) compared to a standard needle (16¹, conclude that the use of a thinner needle results in significantly and clinically relevant lower pain scores during oocyte retrieval, and patients in the reduced needle group requested significantly less analgesia during oocyte retrieval than patients in the standard needle group. Pain scores remained significantly lower up until 2 days after the procedure. 1. Buisman E et al. 2020 In press https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33077240

Embryo culture in G-Series results in significantly higher cell numbers and implantation rates compared to culture in HTF
A study by Kleijkers show that besides cell numbers and implantation rates, gene expression and certain pathways in preimplantation embryos are also affected by culture medium.

The benefits of using a peroxide-free oil
Japanese researcher Otsuki and colleagues experienced reduction in fertilisation rate and impaired embryo development when they began to use a new bottle of oil at their IVF clinic. They decided to make an investigation of the root cause and found it to be high peroxide levels in the oil. Download a summary of their findings to learn more about why high peroxide levels in oil can harm the culture system and the results from peroxide values in oil from different manufacturers.

Development and validation of a next-generation sequencing–based protocol for 24-chromosome aneuploidy screening of embryos
Fiorentino et al., (2014) performed a validation of the VeriSeq PGS Solution to investigate its applicability to PGT-A. Karyotypically defined chromosomally abnormal single cells and whole-genome amplified products, previously analysed by array-CGH, selected from 68 clinical PGT-A cycles with embryos biopsied at cleavage stage. NGS specificity for aneuploid embryo call was 100% with a sensitivity of 100%. Fiorentino concluded that this product demonstrated a robust methodology ready for clinical applications in reproductive medicine, which potential advantages of reduced costs and enhanced precision.

Using PGS and time-lapse in synergy will enhance your decision making
Picking out the embryo(s) most likely to be viable is the goal of any embryo selection process. Both time-lapse and preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) are well established methods for enhancing the chance of transferring a viable embryo.
