The advantages with EmbryoScope+ from a customer perspective

Are you a time-lapse user or are you considering implementing time-lapse in your IVF clinic? Helle Bendtsen, Lab Manager at Aleris-Hamlet Fertility, Copenhagen, Denmark, is a user of time-lapse for IVF treatments. Read her story about the benefits that come with using EmbryoScope+ time-lapse system and her thoughts about the future.

“I have worked with assisted reproduction for 30 years, where we have removed the embryos from the incubator to observe their development under the microscope and have had to remember the snap-shots of the embryos in our minds alone. We are now in 2020, and I think it is a great opportunity to implement new technology, which at the same time is developed based on a database on known implantation outcome. We have cultured more than 200 cycles with EmbryoScope+ time-lapse system at this point and are using Guided Annotation and KIDScore decision support tools to evaluate embryos. It is intuitive and easy for us to use. Just with a few clicks, we agree with the software about which embryo to transfer in the end.

We have also introduced to culture our warmed blastocyst in EmbryoScope+ to observe re-expansion after vitrification before the FET - treatment transfer.

To receive the full benefit of using time-lapse, I do see an advantage of using a media in addition, that is specifically designed for time-lapse but also for culture to day 5, which gives us a true undisturbed culture in EmbryoScope+ time-lapse system. I can see now that all this combined increase the quality and leads to good results.

Right now we are working on our “wish-list” or could be of “need to have list” for 2021 and to be able to expand our possibilities to offer time-lapse technology as standard of care to all our customers, we are hoping to have an EmbryoScope Flex. We believe this will give us the flexibility to treat a wider profile of patients and make time-lapse a standard of care. Different patient groups and stimulation protocols result in a range of oocytes collected in each cycle. No matter how few or many embryos we need to culture, EmbryoScope Flex seems as an ideal solution and perfect supplement for our EmbryoScope+.

It is very important for us to offer our customers both quality, evidence-based products and new technology, which is proven to make a difference for them. When looking at the future for our customers, I see that treatment with assisted reproduction will be more personalised.

The report form from EmbryoViewer, where we print out pictures of the development of the embryo, which we have selected for transfer, are also given to our customers – and they are very happy for this!

We are aware of new software on time-lapse systems from Vitrolife that is under its way, too. I am very much looking forward to our continuous collaboration and partnership with Vitrolife.”
